Great American Songwriting Teams Part One

Many of the chestnuts from the Great American Songbook were the result of collaboration between composer and lyricist. Great American Songwriting Teams Part One draws from this deep well of songs. In addition to earnest performances of these songs, expect to hear some back stories of the songs and the collaborators themselves.

Americans had to pull together during World War II. We were putting all our resources into the war. This led to the rationing of food, gas and clothes. A concerted effort was made to boost morale, both here at home and abroad. Canteen Treasures showcases songs of the era that were used to lift the spirits of our troops and those at home who were being encouraged to support the war efforts.

Tribute to Harold Arlen

Harold Arlen wrote over 400 songs and partnered with some great lyricists – Ted Koehler, Johnny Mercer, Jimmy Van Heusen, Ira Gershwin.
